community helpers - fire fighters!

Today we went on a trip to the fire station. Just as we pulled up one of the fire trucks were leaving to an emergency! We saw the flashing lights of the fire truck and we saw it drive way with firemen inside to put out a fire.

 When we got into the firestation the fireman let us each have a turn to sit inside the firetruck and turn the steering wheel!

Mariella was even brave enough to go into the middle of the firetruck where all the firefighters sit and keep their gear. All the rest of us just looked  inside when morah held us :)

They showed us the flashing lights on the firetruck.

  

We then saw a fireman put on his fireman clothing and hat. The hat was a little too heavy for us to wear on our head but we all touched it. It was so hard and strong in order to protect the fireman's head.

  Back at our preschool we did some experiments with fire and water. Every time morah made a fire, the water put it out! Of course we spoke about fires being VERY dangerous for children to go near. We saw pictures of all the different types of things we must stay away from including stove tops, candles and matches.

We made a fire collage with red cellophane and stuck on a fireman to help put out the fire.

 We got a new firetruck and firetruck puzzle for our classroom!

Trip to the pizza store!

We went on a big school bus to the pizza store.

  We put sauce and cheese onto our pizza.

 We each had a turn to see the oven that is used to bake the pizza

 Yum! Now our pizza is ready to eat!

GREEN

we painted with green paint and green celery on green paper. The celery made our artwork look so interesting:)

"our community" and the color GREEN

We started our unit on "our community" where we  focus on people around us that do things that help  us.


For example: the first community helper that we discussed this week was a shopkeeper.  When we need food or other things we need to go to a store where the shopkeeper will sell us what we need.


We all went on a beautiful stroll to a grocery store!

When we got to the store we looked at all the GREEN things. We saw green apples, green cucumbers, green beans, etc and even some leafy green vegetables like dill and parsley in the refrigerator!

We took a bag of green grapes, green cucumbers, green apples, green celery and green pears. Then we waited on line to pay for it. 

We talked to the friendly shopkeeper. She was so happy to sell us the green fruits and vegetables that we wanted :)

She put all our things into a plastic bag for us to take back with us to preschool and Arik gave her some green money! 

When we got back to school we put all our "green goodies" on a plate to eat after lunch!

What a fun experience it was.

We read a book called "Under the deep blue sea". 

We made blue Sea pictures by cutting out fish and covering them with blue cellophane for water. 

We spoke a lot about water.

We did some experimenting with different objects to see which would sink to the bottom and which would float to the top.

We started off by putting blue coloring in the water to make it blue.

Boy did we  have fun guessing which objects would sink.
